Star

a sonnet

Julie & Star (taken 2 months earlier)
There is nothing like a death to make you
Appreciate life. It goes by so fast
And nothing you do seems to make it last
Very long. The clock will tick, slipping through

Your fingers, as you brush through his black mane
And see the pain in his eyes. This old horse
Is family, but time ran its course
While he ran through fields without pain.

Today we reluctantly said good bye
With tear stained cheeks, as he lay on the ground
Overcome with age and pain. The time would

Come, after many years, for him to fly.
He will be missed. Not having him around
Make this life seem to fragile, as it should.
